In this study, the role of previous exposure to different chemico-physical stresses on the trehalose accumulation in response to high pressure homogenization in vegetative cells of Yarrowia lipolytica and Bacillus subtilis was analyzed. In general, all the pre-treatments involved modifications of the trehalose content either by means of its mobilization or its increased accumulation. In any case, previous exposure to the sublethal stresses significantly increased the high pressure tolerance, associated with higher trehalose accumulation during homogenization treatment. The response of B. subtilis to previous exposure to low PH and Of Y. lipolytica to oxidative stress did not follow this rule.
