The aim of this paper is to propose an alternative method for choosing some potential poles to be inserted in multi-step models, in order to build sub regional areas for the analysis of the income circuit.Starting from the location theories and, particularly, from the models of hierarchical arrangement of settlements, the method here suggested proposes to identify these central places of economic, social, manufacturing activities, not on the basis of their own attraction force, but moving from the central cities profile in regard to the typology of services offered generally to enterprises and people.Once empirically verified, the proposed method enables a more precise pinpointing of the poles, as it allows the integration of different information (data on services supply and on daily commuting).[...]
