The second section includes a survey of publications which offer stimulating case-studies for the field, beginning with the analysis of the ancient Greek theatre in relation to the emerging of the phonetic alphabet in writing practices, to the complex consequences brought about in theatre, music and dance by the transition from a manuscript to a typographic culture. Much less defined, and therefore still wide open to further advancements, it appears the literature concerning the transformations occurred and still occurring as a big and profound shift is happening from the alphabetic and typographic culture to an electric-electronic, digital culture. The last section, finally, focusses on an inspiring convergence between a technopsychological approach to the history of the performing arts and the Richard Schechner’s notion of the dynamic and dialectical dyad between efficacy and entertainment as a core feature of every kind of cultural performance.

Abstract

As an appropriate ending, the final essay goes back in its first section to the questions proposed by the CFP, deepening the thought of authors that provides methodological tools suitable to develop studies on the performing arts historiography along a mediamorphic and/or technopsychological perspective.
