Based on the analysis of coeval publishing documents (such as diaries, yearbooks and guidebooks), the paper investigates the phenomenon of private dance schools opened in Abruzzo in the second half of the twentieth century. The aim is to initiate a specific critical and historiographical reflection on dance practices in the private sphere. The first part of the study focuses on the relationships between Abruzzo's dance centers and the capital's training institutions; the second part, on the other hand, analyzes the motivations and consequences of the proliferation of schools in the 1970s and 1980s, also to contribute to a better understanding of the development processes of the new Italian dance.
