A case of sudden death of a 5-month-old male dog due to a severe pulmonary pattern of Angiostrongylus vasorum is reported. The animal was housed in a kennel and vaccinated with a polyvalent vaccine. At necropsy, all lung lobes showed dozens of nodules containing adult nematodes. Histology attested a thick pyogranulomatous reaction surrounding parasitic forms. No parasites were observed in the right heart and pulmonary artery. Similarly, no larval parasites were detected in the faeces. Morphological and molecular identification of A. vasorum were achieved through microscopic examination of adult specimens and by DNA amplification. A virological test for type 2 Canine Parvovirus (CPV2) confirmed the field variant CPV2a in the faeces. Severe pulmonary granulomatosis in puppies during A. vasorum infection occurs rarely. The concomitant panleukopenia of animal due to canine parvovirus infection may have exacerbated the infiammatory reaction to granulomatous transformation of lung tissue.

Abstract
The concomitant panleukopenia of animal due to canine parvovirus infection may have exacerbated the infiammatory reaction to granulomatous transformation of lung tissue.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
