Abstract

A dichotomy exists between economic and political scholarship on Renaissance Genoa. Together with historiographical perspectives it is the way the archival sources were formed and have been preserved which has oriented scholars towards one direction or another, and, ultimately, has characterized the two perspectives. This article applies an interdisciplinary approach, and uses economic and political sources, in order to focus on the relationships between Genoese global trade networks and factional dynamics from 1450 to 1530.
