The essay aims at deepening the relationship of Giovanni Battista Scalabrini with politics by the analysis of some of his writings. In his first papel Intransigenti e transigenti (1885), the focus is on the political prospectives differences emerging between the two Catholic alignments. A particular attention is devoted to socialism and social question. The subject dealt in some Lettere Pastorali is mainly debated in Il socialismo e l՚azione del clero (1899) where Scalabrini harshly criticizes the socialists and tries to oppose their action, and points at the Catholic religion as the only and authentic option to their doctrines.
