Nowadays, the transport and freight forwarding industries are placed at the centre of a disruptive process of innovation which is calling the main players of the sector to keep an adaptive approach to the new trends that are rapidly emerging. The rise in demand for e-commerce and logistics has created a need for freight forwarders to streamline processes and provide real-time updates for shippers and customers. In this context, the demand for faster, more reliable and more affordable forwarding services and technology has kicked off a unique trend of “platformization” of the industry characterized by the presence of digital platforms acting as market intermediaries in freight transportation. From a legal perspective, the digital transformation embraced by many operators opens up various questions concerning both private and public law issues and calls for a systemic analysis that has to start from the observation of the key role played by freight forwarders in the transport and logistic industry. Abstract

The paper proposes a study of the current state of the art on digital platforms, with the purpose of highlighting the criticalities emerging from the implementation of that innovative business model in the transport and logistic sector and identifying possible solutions to the latter.
