A manuscript of the Library of San Lorenzo de El escorial contains an hitherto unknown 'index capitulorum' of the Epitome Iuliani. Compared with other registers of this type, this index shows some important singularities that throw new light on the Greek collection which formed the basis for the 'versio vulgata' of the Authenticum. First of all it provides a more significant version of the ancient gloss about the 'cxxii constitutiones' which mentions a mysterious 'codex graecus'. Even more interesting are the numbers counting the 'rubricae' of the Epitome. These numbers, in fact, follow the series of the Novellae in the collection of the ancient 'codex graecus'. They correspond, more or less, with those of the Heimbach Edition of the Authenticum. But there are some surprises, too.[...]
