Thanks to the findings reached through different methods of historical as well as scientific and technological investigation – from the analysis of style and iconography to the research of the many peculiarities regarding the painting’s technique – the essay provides a new attribution to Pieter Paul Rubens, thus suggesting to include within the master’s catalogue the – never published before – Portrait of a Man with Ruff, belonging to a private collection in Rome, Italy. The essay suggests also the identification of the sitter with young Archiduke Albert VII of Habsburg: a man who would become, a few years later, one of Rubens’ most promising and consistent patrons.

Abstract
Thanks to the findings reached through different methods of historical as well as scientific and technological investigation – from the analysis of style and iconography to the research of the many peculiarities regarding the painting’s technique – the essay provides a new attribution to Pieter Paul Rubens, thus suggesting to include within the master’s catalogue the – never published before – Portrait of a Man with Ruff, belonging to a private collection in Rome, Italy. The essay suggests also the identification of the sitter with young Archiduke Albert VII of Habsburg: a man who would become, a few years later, one of Rubens’ most promising and consistent patrons.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
