The prevalence of leishmaniasis and ehrlichiosis has rarely been reported in the feline medicine. The purpose of this report was to performe a sero-epidemiological study in cats living in Abruzzo region. Two hundred and three feline serum samples were investigated for the detection of anti-Leishmania infantum and anti-Ehrlichia canis antibodies using indirect immunofluorescence test. The seroprevalence was 16,2% for Leishmania, with titers ranging from 1: 40 to 1:320, and 1% for Ehrlichia, with titers of 1:160 and 1:2560. Co-infection by immunosuppressive viruses (FIV and FeLV) was also investigated in seropositive cats to evaluate the possible role of these agents in triggering the infection of Leishmania and Ehrlichia in cats.[...]
