Spataro after the Liberation was appointed Undersecretary of State for the Interior in the Government Parri and De Gasperi (1945-1946). In the difficult transition of Italy from fascism, war, resistance to democracy and to the Republic, Spataro held the important post with firmness and balance contributing its government action to stabilize the Italian political situation along a line of continuity of the State and restoration of State authority.
