This paper aims at presenting highlights of a broader research project on the topic of the spread of English in Europe, Italy and, above all, in specific Italian domains, namely Economics and Finance (Rosati, 2004; Rosati F. and F. Vaccarelli, 2005; Rosati F. and F. Vaccarelli, 2007; Rosati, 2012; Vaccarelli, 2012). In the past decades we have seen English become an increasingly global vehicle of communication, so much so that it has begun to affect the character of other languages especially due to the great number of English loanwords. This trend has been viewed with mixed attitudes because, while some people see the influence of English on their national language as a source of enrichment, others see it as an attack on their traditional language and the values it represents.

Abstract
This paper aims at presenting highlights of a broader research project on the topic of the spread of English in Europe, Italy and, above all, in specific Italian domains, namely Economics and Finance (Rosati, 2004; Rosati F. and F. Vaccarelli, 2005; Rosati F. and F. Vaccarelli, 2007; Rosati, 2012; Vaccarelli, 2012). In the past decades we have seen English become an increasingly global vehicle of communication, so much so that it has begun to affect the character of other languages especially due to the great number of English loanwords. This trend has been viewed with mixed attitudes because, while some people see the influence of English on their national language as a source of enrichment, others see it as an attack on their traditional language and the values it represents.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
