The contribution addresses specifically the most relevant issues of harmonisation of the law at a regional level in the wider perspective of Transnational Commercial Law at a global level. Though regional harmonisation represented an early feature in the development of uniform law, in the last few decades a strengthening of regional self consciousness is clearly visible and new challenges have emerged. The contribution covers the reasons for, and risks and challenges of, regional harmonisation, the most common instruments and areas for regional harmonisation, historically and currently, as well as the relationship with global uniform law, in terms both of conflicts and coordination.
