Abstract
The New World was for Iberian Catholic Europe a challenge to the issues raised by the religious point of view: it was already preached the Gospel, there were traces of the passage of the apostles? Evangelization was the first step toward correcting the idolatric state in which indigenous peoples lived? The question of idolatry was related with that of the origin of the Indians. In Peru, the two themes stimulated the search for the formulation of a story that, while using europeans canons and frameworks, differed for placing events in a different natural and social context. The history of the evangelization of the Indians was introduced as part of universal history, contributing to the formation of a Peruvian history and a Peruvian Creole consciousness.[...]I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
