The aim of this study was to evaluate of periovulatory plasma levels of progesterone and estrogens in the mare. Eighteen mares were ultrasonographically monitored for follicular growth and blood collected to analyse progesterone and estrogens plasma levels. Hormones were evaluated by RIA on plasma collected every 12 h from 24 h before and 24 h after ovulation, and at pregnancy diagnosis (day 14). Estrogens were significantly higher before (17.1±9.4 ng/ml 24 h and 16.6±8.3 ng/ml 12 h before ovulation) compared to after ovulation (7,3±6,6 ng/ml 12 h and 5,3±3,8 ng/ml 24 h post ovulation). Progesterone basal levels (<1 ng/ml) were detected until 24 h after ovulation, as reported in literature. Progesterone plasma levels on Day 14 was higher in pregnant (12,0±6,3 ng/ml) compared to non-pregnant (3,0±3,1 ng/ml) mares.

Abstract
Progesterone plasma levels on Day 14 was higher in pregnant (12,0±6,3 ng/ml) compared to non-pregnant (3,0±3,1 ng/ml) mares.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
