The ancient manuscripts of the Institutiones and the Novellae of Justinian (IX-XI saec.) show how long, various and complicated was the construction of the so called 'volumen parvum' (the last 'volume' of the medieval Corpus Iuris Civilis). The ms. Oxford, Oriel College 22 is in that sense a very interesting testimony.
