The multidimensional value of transparency in healthcare organizations computerization

Healthcare informatics and the connected computerization represent a fundamental driving force for the evolution and development of healthcare organizations. Health information systems (in the widest sense, as proposed by AICA with the professional certification named ECDL Health) will become more and more important in the years to come, thanks to the benefits of business informatics in the health sector. In particular, health computerization may help to pursue physiologically a ‘historic’ instrumental value about health, that is transparency, not only as regards performances and their associated responsibilities, but also as regards organizational processes and related information flows. This study, as a conceptual paper, wants to develop a theoretical framework about the multidimensional value of health transparency, analyzing health information systems in the perspective of the transparency resulting by business computerization; in addition, by a specific content analysis, we try to contribute to a more robust arrangement of the ECDL Health Syllabus.
