SUMMARY – Aim of this work was to evaluate the role of the two enzymes cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenasae (5-LOX), as well as of their products prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and leukotriene B4 (LTB4) respectively, in the pathogenesis of porcine interstitial pneumonia caused by Porcine circovirus type 2. Biochemical and immunohistochemical investigations showed that COX-2 and 5-LOX expression and activity, as well as PGE2 and LTB4 levels, are significantly increased in diseased lungs versus healthy controls, thus suggesting the likely involvement of the two enzymes in this pathogenesis.[...]
