Aldo de Rinaldis e la Galleria Borghese

Through a number of documents preserved in the Borghese Gallery archives and the recollections of Anna Marzia Bacino Positano, Aldo de Rinaldis' adopted niece, the essay reconstructs the safeguarding activities of the director of the Borghese Gallery and superintendent of the Galleries and Medieval and Modern Works of Art of Lazio from 1941, during the years of the Second World War. With energetic resolve and great practical sense, de Rinaldis secured not only the priceless heritage of the Borghese, but also many other boxes that had previously been housed in the basement of the Roman Gallery and had to be demobilised after September 8, 1943. The oral testimony of the granddaughter, reported in the essay, reconstructs the difficult journeys to the Rocca di San Leo and Carpegna, organised with the help of German General Friedrich Dollmann.

Attraverso alcuni documenti conservati presso l’archivio della Galleria Borghese e i ricordi di Anna Marzia Bacino Positano, nipote adottiva di Aldo de Rinaldis, il saggio ricostruisce l’attività di salvaguardia del direttore della Galleria Borghese, nonché soprintendente alle Gallerie e alle Opere d’arte medioevali e moderne del Lazio dal 1941, durante gli anni del secondo conflitto mondiale. Con energica risolutezza e grande senso pratico, de Rinaldis mise in sicurezza non solo l’inestimabile patrimonio della Borghese, ma anche molte altre casse che erano state precedentemente allogate nei sotterranei della Galleria romana e che dovettero essere smobilitati dopo l’otto settembre 1943. La testimonianza orale della nipote, riportata nel saggio, ricostruisce i difficoltosi viaggi verso la Rocca di San Leo e Carpegna, organizzati con l’aiuto del generale tedesco Friedrich Dollmann.
