The article deals with iconographic sources related to the history of Italian brigandage through a case study: the photographs in the Historical Archives of Cesare Lombroso Museum of Criminal Anthropology at the University of Turin. I will try to explain the reasons why there are more than 200 photographs of brigands in the Lombroso Museum, and to reflect on how to read them through an historical approach
