Foreign population in Italy amounts to about 5 million people: they are generally young individuals, of working age, with medium-low school profiles and often failing to make our Country appreciate their skills, as well as to find a job meeting their expectations. The analysis carried out shows that foreign workers are often employed in less guaranteed jobs than natives, with a lower number of working days and a lower income capacity; furthermore, qualifications do not seem to “protect” non-natives and, above all, do not appear as rewarding as it happens for Italian workers. Our Country has great demographic imbalances; a careful management of migratory flows and the inclusion of foreign workers in the labour market are essential to allow a balanced and lasting growth, that ensures sustainability both in the economic system and in the welfare state.

Abstract
Foreign population in Italy amounts to about 5 million people: they are generally young individuals, of working age, with medium-low school profiles and often failing to make our Country appreciate their skills, as well as to find a job meeting their expectations. The analysis carried out shows that foreign workers are often employed in less guaranteed jobs than natives, with a lower number of working days and a lower income capacity; furthermore, qualifications do not seem to “protect” non-natives and, above all, do not appear as rewarding as it happens for Italian workers. Our Country has great demographic imbalances; a careful management of migratory flows and the inclusion of foreign workers in the labour market are essential to allow a balanced and lasting growth, that ensures sustainability both in the economic system and in the welfare state.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
