The diagnostic accuracy of seven electrocardiographic parameters in the identification of left atrial enlargement (LAE) in the dog was calculated using the area under the curve of receiving operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC). A total of 113 dogs were enrolled, 28 without LAE and 85 with LAE. The duration of the P wave>35 ms and the duration of the descending phase of the P wave as compared to the ascending phase of the P wave>1, and the algebraic product of the amplitude and duration of the P wave >7.5 mVms and the P duration relative to PR interval>33% were fairly accurate (i.e., AUC-ROC > 0.90) for identifying LAE in dogs with bodyweight (BW)>20 and in dogs with BW≤ 20 kg, respectively.
