The failure of the strategies so far adopted to stimulate an anemic economic growth fueled the debate on the theoretical principles underlying the prevailing crisis interpretations. Considering the decline in average investment profitability as the starting point of the analysis, it is necessary to consider the main counter-tendencies that have proved to be the most appropriate time to re-boost – at least temporarily – the process of capital accumulation: among them, the main ones are: the increased labor exploitation, the foreign direct investments, the devaluation of capital. This essay aims to investigate the dynamics of devaluation by distinguishing the devaluation (depreciation) of capital as a value from its destruction in the physical (material) sense.
