For the first time, the article makes a careful study of the spaces where Monteverdi's music was heard, and for which he composed the same music during his employment at Mantua: 1) the places for private music: the newly rediscovered Hall of Mirrors (where 'Every Friday evening music is performed' - 1611-, and where the partial rehearsal of “Arianna” - 14 March 1608 - with Virginia Andreini took place), its organ with wooden pipes and its figurative programme (the frescos and the painting “Le nove muse in aera” (1575–79) by Jacopo Tintoretto, located in the vestibule); 2) the room in which was performed for the first time “Orfeo” (24 February 1607; the ‘apartment used by the Most Serene Lady of Ferrara"; 3) the “Royal chambers” (stanze regie), among which the "room where dances are held" with the painted panel showing a concert scene (formerly attributed to Titian, and now to Padovanino), where perhaps was performed “Scherzi musicali”; 4) the court theatres: the teatro grande used for the performances of “Idropica” and of “Mascherata delle Ingrate” (1608); the temporary theatre constructed to house the performance of “Arianna” (28 May 1608); the teatro piccolo di corte or the "usual room of the comedians", furnished in modern style with boxes; 5) the sacred spaces: the collegiate of S. Barbara; the church of S. Croce in Corte; the Corte Vecchia chapel; the cathedral of S. Pietro; the basilica of S. Andrea where the performance of Vespers music by Monteverdi (1611) took place; the Jesuit church of the Holy Trinity where maybe the motet “Duo Seraphim” was performed (published 1610); the church of the Capuchin fathers, re-dedicated as the church of the Immaculate Conception (24 March 1611); the church of S.
