Immunohistochemical, ultrastructural and pathological studies were carried out on Abramis brama of Lake Mondsee (Austria) naturallyinfected with metazoan parasites. A total of 14 specimens of A. brama were obtained and gill of 7 (50%) were parasitized with E. sieboldi(Copepoda), and the intensity of infection ranged from 1 to 23 crustaceans per host. Three fish (21%) were infected in the intestine withC. laticeps (Cestoda) with the intensity from 1 to 5 parasites per fish. In this group of host, the main damage caused by C. laticeps wasdue to the tapeworm penetration within the intestinal fold. Moreover, beside the cestode body the occurrence of rodlet cells (RCs) andother inflammatory cells were noticed. Histopathological investigations of infected gill showed extensive tissue damage due to attachmentand feeding of the crustacean. In parasitized primary and secondary lamellae a high number of eosinophilic granular cells and RCs wasnoticed. Rodlet cells represent an intense inflammatory cell type closely linked to other piscine inflammatory cells. Mucus cellsdisplayed an intense immunohistochemical reactivity with the Anti Nitric Oxide Synthase antibody. Presence of a high number ofinflammatory cells at the site of E. sieboldi attachment is related to intense host cellular reaction.[...]

Abstract
Presence of a high number ofinflammatory cells at the site of E. sieboldi attachment is related to intense host cellular reaction.[...]I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
