Abstract: The present paper recalls the various attempts to reform in the matter of citizenship into the Italian legal system. Particularly, it focuses on the most recent bills presented for debate before Parliament, that have paved the way for the enlargement of the acquisition of citizenship by “ius soli”, especially for the so-called “second generations” – indeed, there are plenty of children who are born and raised in Italy to foreign parents. On this journey, the debate concerning the attempt to consider – for the acquisition of the Italian citizenship – the knowledge of both Italian language and culture seems to be extremely interesting, since it opens the way for a not yet well defined ius culturae.
